Platen Assembly
Inventory
Tools needed:
- 3mm Hex Key (in Tool Bag)
Parts needed:
- (1) Platen Assembly Bag
- (4) Black Cross Beam
- (4) Glass Holder
Gather parts together and remove plastic coating from extrusion pieces if necessary. Use the part list in the Platen Assembly Bag to verify that all parts are present before beginning. Notify help@tenrec.builders if any parts are missing.
Preload (4) Corner Brackets
Each Corner Bracket uses (2) M5 x 8mm Screws and (2) Single T-Nuts.
Preload (4) L-Plates
Each L-Plate uses (4) M5 x 10mm Screws, (2) Double T-Nuts, and (4) M5 Washers.
Preload (2) V-Brackets
Each V-Bracket uses (4) M5 x 6mm Screws and (2) Double T-Nuts.
Preload (4) Black Corner Brackets
Each Black Corner Bracket uses (2) M5 x 8mm Screws and (2) Single T-Nuts
Preload (4) Side Plates
Each Side Plate uses (6) M5 x 6mm Screws and (3) Double T-Nuts.
When you are done, the side plates should be in two left/right pairs which are mirrors of each other.
Preload (2) T-Plates
Each T-Plate uses (5) M5 x 10mm Screws, (5) M5 Washers, (2) Double T-Nuts, and (1) Single T-Nut.
Preload (2) T-Plates with Rod Ends
Each T-Plate uses (4) M5 x 10mm Screws, (1) M5 x 30mm Screw, (5) M5 Washers, (2) Double T-Nuts, (1) Single T-Nut, (2) 6.35mm Spacers, and (1) Rod End.
Place M5 Washer on M5 x 30mm Screw. Then place Rod End bearing on M5 x 30mm Screw.
Place (2) 6.35mm Spacers on M5 x 30mm Screw
Push M5 x 30mm Screw through the bottom hole of a T-Plate.
Screw M5 x 30mm Screw into one side of a Double T-Nut. Make sure to leave enough of a gap to slide the T-Nut onto T-Slot later on.
Screw M5 x 10mm Screw with M5 Washer into the other side of the Double T-Nut.
Finish pre-loading using remaining (3) M5 x 10mm Screws, Single T-Nut, and Double T-Nut.
Preload 2 Pulleys
Each Pulley uses (1) M5 x 16mm Screw, (10 Single T-Nut, (1) M5 Fender Washer, and 4 M5 Washers.
Place M5 Washer on M5 x 16mm Screw
Place Pulley on M5 x 16mm Screw.
Place (3) M5 Washers on M5 x 16mm Screw
Place M5 Fender Washer on M5 x 16mm Screw
Screw Single T-Nut onto M5 x 16mm Screw, leaving gap for sliding onto T-Slot.
Assemble Platen Front and Back
Arrange (2) Platen Struts and (2) Glass Holders as shown.
Slide a Side Plate onto a Platen Strut from the outside.
Slide a Glass Holder onto the Side Plate assembly.
The corner of the Side Plate should be flush with the end of the Glass Holder. The Platen Strut should be flush with the bottom of the Side Plate and rest against the Glass Holder. Tighten the 4 Screws.
Slide a V-Bracket onto the other end of the Glass Holder.
Slide a Side Plate onto the Platen Strut on the other side.
Attach the pieces of the right hand side in the same way as the left side. Slide the second Glass Holder into the V-Bracket. The Glass Holders should be flush against the edges of the V-Bracket and flush with the bottom point. Tighten Screws.
Repeat these steps to create an identical back.
Turn front and back assemblies around. Slide a preloaded L-Plate onto each end and snug the screws.
Place Glass Slot Cover into Glass Holder. The bottom of the 'U' shape is towards the center of the beam. Squeeze Glass Slot Cover between thumb and forefinger and insert it into the T-slot of a Glass Holder. Once one end is in, you can press down with your thumb to push successive sections into the slot. It must be on the opposite side from the Side Plate and V-Bracket. One end of the slot cover should be at the point where the two Glass Holders connect.
Repeat to place Glass Slot Cover into each of the four Glass Holders.
Assemble Side Black Cross Beams
Slide a T-Plate with Rod End onto the end of a Black Cross Beam. Snug screws.
Slide a Preloaded T-Plate onto the Black Cross Beam Snug screws.
Slide a Pulley Assembly onto the opposite side as the T-Plates. Snug screw.
Repeat for second Black Cross Beam.
Slide Corner Bracket onto one end of a Black Cross Beam assembly.
Slide Corner Brackets onto both ends of each Black Cross Beam assembly. Snug screws.
Assemble Middle Black Cross Beams
Slide Black Corner Bracket onto a Black Cross Beam
Slide Black Corner Bracket on the other end. Repeat so that you have two assemblies. Snug screws.
Place Glass Slot Cover into each of these Black Cross Beams. The Glass Slot Cover goes into the side opposite the two Black Corner Brackets.
You have now completed all of the pieces of the Platen Assembly. Set these aside for now.
